additional information

Trans World Airlines, “TWA”,  began operating its first jet service at Albuquerque with the Boeing 707 on April 30, 1961. TWA operated two versions of the 707, the -131 and the -331 Intercontinental. These aircraft were later re-equipped with turbofan engines and re-designated as the -131B and -331B. The tail number of the first 707 to land at Albuquerque was N86791, a model -131, and operated a flight to and from Los Angeles. The aircraft model shown here is a -131B and has a newer two-stripe livery that TWA adopted in 1975. TWA flew over 120 Boeing 707’s and the aircraft type was used extensively at Albuquerque through the 1960’s and 1970’s up until its retirement in 1983.

Seen below are two images with TWA’s original “arrow” liverly on the 707 followed by one image with the new “two-stripe” livery on an aircraft at the Albuquerque Sunport.
